World’s Sweetest (or Worst?) Tattoo
March 5th, 2007
I’m the proud owner of 6 tattoos, and every one is an extremely important part of me, or something I represent. To me, a tattoo is extremely personal and will always be a part of you, so make them count.
While doing my nightly browsing, I ran across a tattoo that I can’t imagine would fit into that category, even if your life’s work is dedicated to programming. Here you can see a tattoo that anyone with a familiarity with even basic HTML coding will probably bust out laughing. The problem with the tattoo is that it won’t stand the test of time. 30 years from now HTML will be obsolete, and this guy will still have this tattoo on the back of his neck.
Oh well, any excuse to talk tattoos on a tech blog. So, what tattoo’s do you have and what do they represent?

Hey Kyle! Six tattoos? I have four! All fantasy inspired (two elves, one panther, crossing swords, and the Tolkien symbol!)
Great find. Gives a new meaning to coding!
Jason,
VERY cool. Are the sword scimitars? Sounds like all you are missing is Drizzt Do’Urden
I have my oldest son on one ankle and my wife on the other (old Valentine’s day gift). I will have son once my newborn makes my ankle, once I have the cashflow!
On each bicep I have my name and nickname on the other. Above each of those I have Wolverine (from the X-Men) on my arm and a Christian cross that reads “Only God Can Judge Me” on the other arm, which is the motto I live my life by. Both of these are incredibly detailed and took a few hours each to finish. The guy that did them has been on the cover and featured in several magazines, so I had to pay a little more but I wanted to make sure I would be happy with the outcome.
I have a few others I would like to get at some point, but I ran out of room that isn’t easily hideable! Someday I would like to get a Michigan Wolverines tattoo, a dragon, and I almost got Drizzt one time, before deciding on Wolverine.
Maybe now I should add an HTML code tattoo to the list!
LOL.. Actually, I forgot you are into Drizzt.
Two of the tattoos are Drizzt, one with his cape blowing in front of him, and one where he is sitting leaning on Guen(wyvner??) his panther. The two crossed swords are the scimitars (the symbol in the heading of each chapter in the last series of RA Salvatore’s books).
I am a nerd :0)
My next one is this really pissed off looking dwarf in full chainmail!!
Three on my back and one on my left shoulder. It is funny because no one believes I have tattoos, but I love them. Wouldn’t trade them for the world..
I’m not a huge Drizzt fan, but I used to be until I was introduced to “real fantasy” works like Steven Erickson, George RR Martin, and R. Scott Bakker. They take it to another level, but I still love RA Salvatore’s underdark (and just finished the War of Spider Queen series in the last month).
Anyway, back to the topic at hand, here is the picture I originally wanted on my arm before deciding on Wolverine:
and here is the actual tattoo I got:
I like that you mentioned that every tattoo is an important part of you. Many peopleget a tattooo bceause it is cool, but the way you described it is the way to go. One certanly has to identify itself with the tattoo on it’s body.
Nice blog & post.
Tattoo Designer – Thanks! I couldn’t agree more!
