Wordpress Plugin: Spam Karma 2
April 6th, 2007
I’ve been a Akismet/Bad Behavior loyalist since making my switch to Wordpress and so far I’ve had a lot of success, until I saw a recent post by Lorelle that got me excited about Spam Karma 2, which recently released new version 2.3. This new version boasts better compatibility with other existing Wordpress plugins, as well as new features and bug-fixes.
Some use it as a backup to Akismet, while others seem to prefer the combination of Spam Karma and Bad Behavior to stop comment spam cold. I’ve installed the plugin for now and will try it with Bad Behavior to see what kind of results I get compared to Akismet. I’m hoping to go over the results here in a few weeks.
If you’ve used both, I’d love to hear which you prefer and why.

I really enjoy Spam Karma 2. I haven’t used anything else, so I can’t give a comparison. But, I can tell you that I have been very pleased with Spam Karma. It hardly ever fails me.
So far the Spam Karma/Bad Behavior combo has been money and I spend a lot less time deleting spam filtered into Akismet.
If this continues, I will be sticking with Spam Karma. I really wish they would move it out of the Manage tab and add it to the Comments tab where Akismet is.
I got a free blog from booklocker.com (where I had my book published). Since I don’t “own” it, I can’t install plugins, etc. I was moderating everything in order to stop the spam, which was a nightmare. So I whined a bit about the time spent deleting comments. The admin installed Spam Karma 2. Now, no more messing about with spam and full steam ahead for writing posts!
Cheryl – Way to go! SK2 will serve your well!
Its great not having to waste your time deleting spam and allows you to visit other sites or publish more content.
