Top 5 Firefox Extensions for Bookmarking
June 3rd, 2007
There are several popular bookmarking services available, allowing users to access their bookmarks from the companies website.  The two most popular are currently Del.icio.us (social) and Google Bookmarks (private).  There are also some people who still prefer the old style of bookmarking within your browser, so Firefox has you covered there as well with ways to sync your bookmarks between computers.  Either way, Firefox users have you covered with these top 5 extensions:
-
Del.icio.us – Official Del.icio.us extension which adds bookmarking icons, as well as shortcuts to your Del.icio.us bookmarks.
-
Del.icio.us 1.1 – Adds Del.icio.us to your sidebar instead of your menu, allowing you to access your bookmarks without visiting their website.Â
-
Google Bookmarks Menu – Adds a Google Bookmarks Menu to your menu bar and makes it easy to bookmark items while browsing.  Â
-
Foxmarks – Most popular synchronizing extension for those that still use the Firefox bookmarking system.  Will sync your bookmarks across multiple computers. (Only syncs bookmarks)
-
Google Browser Sync – This popular alternative to Foxmarks is made by Google and syncs your various computers Firefox browsers. Includes all bookmarks, cookies and will restore last web session.
Hopefully no matter what kind of bookmarker you are, you are covered with one of these above. If not, let me know which one you use!

I currently use Foxmarks and love it, but since nearly everything else I use is through Google, I think I’ll take a look at that. Thanks!
Holly – Yeah, give Google Sync a try. It offers a few extra things such as cookie transfer (which can be useful for saved passwords, etc.), but some still prefer Foxmarks. Let me know which you end up sticking with!
I have used Browser sync since Firefox 2 finally allowed it to work on the Mac version, and it is great! Transparent to use, and fast after the initial connection on a new computer (because it only updates changes). It also uses the same “google account” that works for other Google apps, such as the Google calendar (which is shaping up to be a rather nice app!).
