Tips to Optimize Your AuctionAds Income
Through a lot of trial and error with ad placement, blending, and more, I’ve managed to bring in about 50% of this blog’s income using Google Adsense. Overall I am very happy with their targeted advertising service, but I’m always on the lookout for other ways to generate income.
AuctionAds has been receiving a lot of praise lately because people are having success with it. I, on the other hand, have not had any success displaying auctions on this site. I think the big reason I haven’t had much success is due to the subject matter covered here, which doesn’t tend to mesh well with eBay auction ads. I talk a lot about free software and web-based applications, so there isn’t really anything to target and sell.
Today I ran across a post by Scott Andrew Bird entitled 7 Ways to Optimize AuctionAds, where Scott covers several things that have helped him find success using AuctionAds. One of the ideas that I found particularly useful is his tip to Display AuctionAds alongside Adsense:
When it comes to placement, the usual rules apply (take a look at Google’s ‘heat map’ to see the highest-earning areas of your site). Taking this a step further is the placement of ads in relation to their competitors.
I’ve found that placing AuctionAds alongside their Google Adsense counterparts to be particularly effective.
The ads seem to feed well from each other, and the ad content is always good.
I suppose this is probably allowed by Google because they don’t look very similar. Have you found success with AuctionAds? If so, what tips do you have to recommend?

My advice would be to use it in conjunction with Ultimate Tag Warrior. It helps make every page individual (so football posts will sell football items, etc.)

Rhys - Excellent tip! I currently use UTW for my tags on this site. I’ve found it is useful to target them for my Google Adsense ads as well.

Not many people have had success with AuctionAds Kyle . I’ve tried them and didn’t have any success as well , I had lot of clicks with $0 .

Cristian - I would actually agree, except AuctionAds themselves and several A-list and B-list bloggers are reporting HUGE income with AuctionAds. I think that is why these tips are so important if you’re someone that is willing to try to get the most income out of your site.

Well, I’m not entirely convinced it’s that successful. It may be, but I’ve really only read that in their communications to me. I used to have it on my blog, but decided to take it down. In truth, it was probably too soon, but I didn’t care for the risque poses I saw as a result. What were the photos for? Software for Pete’s sake.

Mark - The numbers show it is very successful. It also was recently purchased by Media Whiz (who owns TLA and ReviewMe), so it should continue to be improved going forward.
I think the type of site you run makes a big different. A sports site or a site that recommends software, books, or whatever will have a lot more success than other sites. I won’t have a ton of success because there aren’t really any good keywords to match up to. I talk a lot about free software, free web services and such. Makes it a tough sell.
Thanks for your input!

Just signed up for this from your affiliate link.
I plan to use with AdSense. I’m not really bothered abt the money I can make with auction ads (side income is always welcome). I’ll place auction ads (which has images along with the adsense code). Hope this improves the CTR of my AdSense.
