Slickmania Gets New Logo
February 8th, 2008
It has been close to a month now since I completed the re-branding of this website under the new domain name Slickmania. While most of the background work was done by me before making the change, the one area I knew that I needed to improve upon was to get a professional logo, instead of using the temporary logo that I re-launched with.
I’ve never been afraid to admit that I have no Photoshop skills, which is why I keep Mark Sierra, my “logo guy”, on retainer. Over this past month, I’ve been working closely with Mark to get the new logo put together for this blog. Mark managed to take my vision for the logo and drastically improve upon it, resulting in a logo that I am very pleased with:
I love the colors of the logo and think that it fits pretty well with the overall theme of this blog. Now that the logo is in place, I think I’m finally satisfied with the overall look, feel, and functionality that this blog presents to readers. What do you think? Are there any other improvements you’d like to see me make to this site in order to improve your user experience? Let me know and I’ll see what I can do to get them into place. If not, then I’ll start putting my extra time into revamping the look of Hack WordPress.
P.S. If you are interested in hiring Mark, he does some of the best work I’ve ever seen at very reasonable rates. He makes banners for $40.00 and 125×125 buttons for $20.00, or will do custom orders to meet your needs. He’s working on setting up a few samples of his work, but in the meantime, I recommend contacting him with questions or to inquire about a purchase.

Hey Kyle, I’m glad to have had the opportunity to work on this with you. Seeing the logo displayed is like seeing the last piece of the puzzle be put into place.
Really like the new logo. I may have to take a look into this also for my site.

That is a nice clean looking logo. I fits very well with the color scheme of your blog. Great job.
I have been playing with my logo for the longest time but I never seem to be satisfied with it.
The only think I would do with your new logo is to make it clickable to return your reader to the main page and I would also include an ALT tag with it.
@ Mark – I couldn’t agree more. Thanks so much for your help!
@ Mike – A custom professional logo is fairly important when trying to build a successful blog in my opinion.
@ James – Thanks for the suggestion James!
The reason it isn’t clickable is that I’ve found in my 2+ years of blogging that people find having the logo clickable annoying. I moved it to the stylesheet so I can better control what images are placed over it, such as the advertisement banner to the right. Because it isn’t clickable, I keep a “Home” button just above it in the upper left corner of my menu.
Fantastic new banner – def. completes the site. And that’s awfully inexpensive for such a nice logo – I was expecting quite a bit more. I have a feeling Mark may be looking at a full schedule with quality / prices like that.
Though I do agree with James – I prefer it to be clickable. But it is your site, after all.
The logo blends well with the site, love the ’s’ of Slick
That looks gorgeous buddy! Blends really well and I have always been amazed at the wide array of thinsg mark can do!
Looks really great, I like it!
Thanks to everyone for their kind words about the logo!
I think the new logo is different yet simply cool. It doesn’t seem to emulate any other style out there which is good.
Nice logo, but your headaer banner is covering most of it up for me using Safari – I would try and fix this asap.
@ Tom – Thanks for the information. I hadn’t thought of testing the site in Safari (usually just Gecko engines and IE7/IE6).
I’m not 100% sure what you mean, but I think I’ll go download Safari and figure it out. Thanks!
@ Tom – Okay, I think I’ve got the Safari thing figured out. I’m an Apple fan, but there browser renders things kind of weird. I’ve got it moved now and just need to tweak the alignment a little bit.
Thanks for the heads up! I never would have thought to check the theme in Safari for some reason.
