Review of Today’s Social Sites
March 17th, 2007
Most people that read this website know about Digg and Del.icio.us, but have you heard of Reddit?  What about BlinkList?  There are a lot of great social sites out there that can make your internet browsing experience better.
TechCrunch has posted a sort of review of today’s social sites, focusing on working towards a better Digg.  You can learn a lot about Digg’s top competitors and what they are doing to make there mark on the social scene. I am planning to give BlinkList a try over the next week.

Interesting article. Thanks for the heads up. I’ve tried a few of these with varying degrees of success. The trick is in finding the social network site(s) that best fit your niche. I’ve actually been surprised by which ones seem to fit my guitar blogging niche best.
I’m curious – do you have any preferences? It seems that technology blogs are well served by most but I’m wondering what you’ve found to be the most effective.
Robert,
I’m definitely addicted to a majority of the social sites. I generally prefer Google Bookmarks over Del.icio.us/Yahoo MyWeb2, but I do enjoy most of the other sites including Digg and Reddit.
I’m making it a point to try a few of these other sites that I haven’t tried yet, such as BlinkList (mentioned above in my post).
Many of these sites are great concepts, but lack the ability to make it happen. The ones that can combine the concept/vision with the reality of how it works are the successful ones. Digg has undergone several algorithm changes to get things working the way they wanted it to, and its constantly a work in progress.
I agree with your assessment. With the inability of many of these sites to follow through on their respective concepts, it’s only a matter of time before many start to drop by the wayside.
For my niche, Netscape has been a pleasant surprise. I’ve never received the hundreds of visitors in a day that a well received Digg might get but I get a consistent flow of traffic from Netscape months after the fact. Del.icio.us has also been a good source of regular traffic.
BTW – I recently started using Blinklist a bit and it seems promising.
