New Information About Mozilla Thunderbird 3.0
February 23rd, 2008
I’m a big fan of the Mozilla Thunderbird software. I generally use a mixture of Thunderbird 2.0 and Microsoft Outlook 2003 to manage my 15+ e-mail accounts via POP3 and have no real complaints. After looking at what is in store for Thunderbird users, I will be considering making the permanent switch to Thunderbird once version 3.0 comes out.
For more information about Thunderbird 3.0, I recommend you check out this post over at Webware. Among the things we can expect are better searches, a built-in calendar (this is huge for me), and some new technology that is designed to take message beyond e-mail (IM integration, etc.).
Anyone else looking forward to Thunderbird 3.0?

When it comes to POP3 clients my client of choice has always been Thunderbird. However, with Gmail and its functionality, I find it just as easy to forward all my various accounts to my Gmail address.
@ Mike – That is how I used to do it, however, I’ve found two things with doing it that way:
1) Many websites won’t allow you to register with a free email address because of spam problems (Sedo comes to mind). You need to use your domain name as an email address for these types of sites.
2) I’ve found that it looks unprofessional to run a website using a Gmail/Yahoo/Hotmail/AOL address. You can always forward your emails from your domain email address to Gmail, but it shows “on behalf of” on the emails, so that is almost worse in my opinion.
I keep all my email address web-based, then have them dump into Outlook/Thunderbird for easy management. I keep a digital copy of every email in the web-based account for my reference if I’m away from home so I can get to anything.
I agree with everything you said. Those are all the reasons I used to give when I was adement against using something like Hotmail.
These days, I come across so many professionals who use Gmail, I figured what the heck. By professionals I don’t mean businesses.
If I was in “business” not just blogging I would likely send mail through something like thunderbird. But for my blog and such, Gmail is good stuff.
