Gravatar 2.0 to Launch February 15th

Gravatar, which stands for Globally Recognized Avatar, is set to launch on February 15, 2007, according to their official blog.

This is great news!   I set up my Gravatar back when I started blogging about a year ago and enjoyed it, but didn’t really notice how much I liked it until it was gone.   Wordpress blogs even allow commenters to have their Gravatar appear next to their comment with the help of a Wordpress plugin, helping users to easily identify other commenters they enjoy.

If you can’t wait until the 15th, they are looking for a limited number of testers in the meantime.

I think the Gravatar concept is a great one, but the service being down for so long may cost Gravatar in the long run.   MyBlogLog sort of filled the void while Gravatar was gone and now that Yahoo! owns them, they will only continue to improve.

Do you think there is room for both Gravatar and MyBlogLog?
