As we get closer to Firefox 3.0 entering the much anticipated first beta phase, we continue to receive tidbits of information about the next generation web browser. By now you should probably know all about the popular Places feature, as well as other features that will be included.

Today some more information was released, and as usual, CyberNet News is on top of it. According to Ryan, it looks like Firefox 3.0 will have a specific look depending on your operating system. Currently it looks like Firefox is trying to give a specific look to the browser for Windows Vista users that will take advantage of the icon possibilities, while keeping a fairly traditional look for Windows XP users.

If you are a Macintosh or Linux user, fear not, as it appears those are in the works also.

I’m a little disappointed that Firefox 3.0 is getting so far behind schedule despite all the great stuff that we can expect. You would think with Mozilla shifting most of their resources and focus on to the browser that it would be ahead of schedule, but it looks like we will be lucky to see Beta 2 before the holidays.

Oh, and while we are on the subject of Firefox, they have released 2.0.0.8.   This appears to include two critical updates, so you’ll want to upgrade as soon as possible.
