Blogging Discussion: When Is A Good Time To Stop Blogging?
October 2nd, 2007
While catching up on some of my feeds I ran across an interesting post on Blogging Tips entitled When do you throw in the towel? This is a question I see asked a lot by bloggers who have been blogging for six months or less and they are disappointed that they aren’t rich yet, or they aren’t satisfied with the number of comments they are getting on their posts.
Unfortunately, to many people get into blogging because they think they can make a lot of money online, or they put to much emphasis on getting comments on their posts. If you aren’t a full time blogger, that is not a good reason to start blogging. Blogging should be something you do because you want to, not something you do for money or comments. If you get into blogging for the wrong reasons, you are probably doomed to begin with.
If you look at what blog’s have experienced the most success, many of them are passionate about what they do, and would probably do it even if they weren’t successful. This is the key to a blog’s success in my experience.
How do you measure a blog’s success?

Very nice. I think that if you love what you’re doing, your blog is already successful whether it makes money or not.
Brown – Yeah, that was kind of what I was getting at. Most successful bloggers didn’t start out trying to make money online. Typically they did it because they wanted to.
A buddy of mine was paying $20.00 a month and blogging every day for 2 years before he started monetizing his website.
The minute I started doing this, I knew that this is what I wanted to do. It has been a tough battle and a long road. But I have proved to myself and to others it can be done…
… however, if I had it all to do over again… flipping burgers at McDonald’s might have been a better option!
{joking}
All in all though… you are right. On thing that I find and get the most questions about is people some how making the assumption that starting a blog or a website is an “Instant” solution… many people feel that it should do down like pressing the big red “Easy Button”.
I tell people the same thing… it’s work. This is my job… this is what pays the bills. I work and I work my ass off to make it happen. If you are not willing to invest the amount of time needed, then you will fail. If you don’t wake up and love blogging and being an Internet marketer, you will fail. If you look for an easy way out in life, you will fail.
There is no easy button…
There is no escape from work…
(to all the matrix fans) … there is no spoon! lol
If you want to make a career in blogging, then you have to treat it no differently than you would treat any other line of business and be prepared to invest double the time you normally would compared to the people that slave to the man.
