Blogging Discussion: Do You Display Recent Posts?
January 4th, 2008
When it comes to deciding what to display in the sidebar of a blog, there are a wide variety of options available to WordPress users. In addition to the stuff most WordPress themes offer by default and the WordPress plugins available for your sidebar, we also have access to a wide variety of 3rd party widgets and badges to display in the sidebar.
I personally do not like 3-column themes (just personal preference), so over time I have become picky when it comes to deciding what to display in my sidebar. As a result, one of the casualties has always been displaying my recent posts. With the recent redesign of this site and some changes to the how the sidebar functions, I now have some room available and figured I would get readers opinions on displaying their recent posts.
If you display your recent posts, do you find that search engine traffic and other readers use them?

I use the recent post and most popular post lists in my sidebar. To be honest with you I haven’t looked into those stats. The main reason I use them is to improve my own internal linking.
Whether my readers use them or not, I don’t think they detract from their overall experience and they definitely help spread internal authority and in getting pages spidered more frequently.
I prefer displaying my recent posts as it helps the readers which arrive via search engine on some older posts.
I like seeing recent posts when I visit any blog. That and because of the reason Madhur stated. You can add your recent posts to the dom tab so it doesn’t take up new space on your sidebar buddy.
Looks like that is 3 votes for displaying Recent Posts.
Good idea Baron, I guess I could add it to the sidebar as a new tab.
As a quick follow up, I figured I would say that you guys talked me into adding a Recent Posts tab in the sidebar. Now I’m out of room though!
