I don’t spend a lot of time covering Apple on this site because I’m not a huge fan of Apple products, but I am a huge fan of the iPod. I probably use mine 6 hours a day at work to pass the time. As a result, I was pretty pumped up to see what the next generation iPod’s would be like when Apple announced the details today.

So far, here is the information I’ve found:

  • The iPod Nano will be very similar to the current video iPod, and will include three games and video playback. Additional videos and games can be purchased via iTunes at a later date. It will be available in 4 GB ($149.00) and 8 GB ($199.00).
  • The current iPod video will now be known as the iPod Classic, which will be thinner than its predecessor, come in 80 GB ($249.00) and 160 GB ($349.00), and have improved battery life.
  • There is also a new iPod, known as the iPod Touch, which will feature the company’s revolutionary multi-touch user interface (seen on the iPhone). This will enable users to browse and play their library of music, videos and more on its 3.5 inch widescreen display. It will also include wireless internet and web browsing. You will have the choice of an 8 GB ($299.00) iPod touch or a 16 GB ($399.00) version.

I’m not a big fan of the iPhone, and I wouldn’t considering using a phone that requires Cingular/AT&T as my cell phone, so I am really excited about the iPod Touch, which seems to have several of the same features without the phone part. The iPod Classic and the new iPod Nano both look like terrific upgrades to their current models as well, so iPod fans definitely have a lot to be excited about.

I had also heard rumors that digital radio would be included, but haven’t seen this reported anywhere officially yet, so I will continue to be on the lookout for that. If you can confirm this, please drop me a comment below.

In other Apple news, the iPhone has undergone some pricing changes. It looks like they are dropping the 4 GB phone completely, so they have dropped the price to $299.00 (from $499.00) to get rid of their stock in Apple stores. The 8 GB iPhone price has also dropped to $399.00 (from $599.00).

If you already have an iPhone, you will probably notice that this is $200.00 price drop on both models, after only two months of being on the market. Was it worth paying an extra $200.00 just to own an iPhone right away? It looks like some iPhone owners aren’t happy about it.
