Technology Talk – 08/23/2007
August 23rd, 2007
Wow, another busy day in the blogosphere and not enough time to cover it all, so here are a few links to tide you over:
- Steve Rubel of Micro Persuasion talks about how Web 2.0 Consolidates as it Expands. I’ve talked a lot about this on this site in the past and how it is affecting things.  Despite many fears, Steve does not feel this is a bad thing and backs it up.
- Ryan of CyberNet News provides Part 2 of his Best Bookmarklets and Favelets series.  I’ve become a big fan of bookmarklets and favelets over the past year, so posts like this are extremely useful. Most interesting of all is the “Digg All” one that allows you to go to a friends submission page and click the Bookmarklet to Digg all of those posts.
- Mark of MeAndMyDrum shares with us a really nice Fresh Badge Generator. I don’t think you’ll ever be able to use a generator to make a professional logo, but this generator is definitely the best one I’ve seen yet.Â
- BloggingPro covers WordPress.com’s Second Birthday.  I found this post interesting because David Peralty covers what improvements have been made to WordPress.com over the past year, which is really impressive. I’m looking forward to seeing what it looks like a year from now.Â

Happy Birthday Wordpress.com
Even though I don’t like their set up, I guess I can still wish them a happy birthday.
The unfortunate thing about Wordpress.com is the fact that people will sign up, launch a blog and then a few months later they’ll realize that they’re not allowed to monetize their blogs. And then they are stuck living with that or forced to get a new self hosted WordPress blog or Blogger.com
If you are not going to fork out money for hosting, then get a Blogger.com blog to start with. You can monetize your blogger.com blog and you can eventually point your blogger.com blog to a domain name if you decide to buy one… Additionally, when the time comes to step things up, you can easily migrate your Blogger.com account into a self hosted Wordpress blog.
Don’t get me wrong… I am a Wordpress junkie. I know Wordpress like the back of my hand. However, Wordpress.com is a terrible place to call home. You are stuck there, can’t make money there, and you share space with terrorists. LOL!!!
