Technology Talk – 08/15/2007
August 15th, 2007
There is some great stuff happening around the blogosphere.  Here are a few posts that were of interest to me:
- CSS Juice has a ‘complete’ list of online generators for web designers. This is a very useful page to bookmark for future reference.
- Mark has posted a well thought out comparison of Co.mments vs. CoComment. Â I’m not a big tracker of my comments, but I have used CoComment before and enjoyed it. Â Mark has Co.mments rated higher, so I will have to give it a try this weekend.
- Nirmal has the first two parts of a Complete Guide to Google Apps 1Â and 2. Â It is nice to see a guide that goes beyond setting up your e-mail.
- ProBlogger has a great write up about the release of Movable Type 4. For those unaware, MT is a blog self-hosting software similar to WordPress.org that is made by SixApart, who also makes LiveJournal and Typepad.
- Mashable has a post listing 30+ Tools for Working with WordPress Posts.  Included are several plugins I wasn’t aware existed. Other notable Mashable posts: iTunes Toolbox, Gmail Toolbox, and a nice list (including pictures) of WordPress 2-column themes.
- TechCrunch speculates about Google’s browser plans. Are they working with Firefox? Or are they going to build their own web browser?
- ProBlogger also posts Feedburner’s explanation of why your Feedburner subscriber count fluctuates. I’ve talked about this a little bit on this site over the past few months and I’ve noticed others wondering this as well.
- eBizMBA has posted their August 2007 edition of the 30 Most Popular Blogs. I found that I already read about 10 of them on a daily basis.

I track comments on other sites using co.mments. In my opinion it is much better than cocomment and makes it easier to follow new comments on other sites. I’ve tried cocomment several times, but to be honest I think it sucks.
Thanks for the link back.
Ryan – Good to know. Looks like I need to give Co.mments another look.
Yeah, I would definitely give it a shot. The new CoComment is so incredibly slow, and I’ve had a heck of a time trying to figure out exactly how it works. Co.mments is simple, fast, and has a feed that I can subscribe to so that I know when there are new comments.
Since posting that comment, I have actually given it a shot and have been impressed with it overall. My problem I am running into is I do most of my commenting from work and we use Internet Explorer 6.0. The favorite it gives you to use doesn’t seem to work on IE6, so I only track comments when I place a comment from home.
I’m surprised it doesn’t work in IE6 because it even works in Opera.
