Avast Reaches 40 Million Users
Over the past couple of years, I’ve spent a lot of time talking about free software, mostly because I am very passionate about open source. There is a ton of great freeware out there, and I actually believe that many of the free anti-virus software available is better than their paid alternatives such as Norton.
I’ve talked to many people that love AVG, but I have always recommend Avast to friends and family. I find it less intrusive, doesn’t use as many computer resources, and it goes a long way towards making me feel my computer is safe.
Today I noticed that Avast’s Home Edition is celebrating 40 million users! That is quite the accomplishment when you really think about it. Between friends and family, I’m proud to say I’ve probably contributed at least 20 of those users.
If you are still paying for your anti-virus software, I recommend you upgrade to Avast whenever you get a chance and don’t look back. After all, its free, so why not give it a shot? I don’t think 40 million people could be wrong!

I’m a fan of AVG, but I’m hearing a lot about Avast these days, time to give it a try!

I’ve used Avast! for years (don’t forget the exclamation point), and have never turned back. I’v tried AVG, Anti-Vir, Clamwin (which I still use for my home server), but Avast! has been THE best every time.
Can’t say enough good things about it.
My favorite feature is the screen saver scan…

Shankar - I use AVG on one of my computers just to keep an eye on it, but I use Avast! on everything else and I really love it. Its free, so it can’t hurt to try it!
Rob - Gah, who could I forget the exclamation point?!?

I’m also a huge fan of Avast! and I always install it on people’s computers when I’m helping to set them up. It always amazes me that a free program can be so great. It consistently catches things that commercial programs have missed.

I was using AVG and Norton on my system . But recently my PC was infected with the virus which showed “Orkut is banned” when you opened the site . None of the antivirus could detect it and then i installed AVAST and it detected and removed it . So i switched to avast too . Its rocking.

Did I already say “screensaver scan?” That feature alone is AWESOME for your high-maintenance users. No need to train them to perform a manual scan of their hard disks…
Ok, enough of my PDA for Avast!

Wow, great to hear that everyone is using Avast!. It is absolutely incredible. Maybe I should write a more detailed post called “Ode to Avast!” or something similar.

I have been using AVG for a while but I think the realtime protection feature on Avast! is really cool.
Time to give it a try.
